29 Aug Flourishing
Hi beautiful, lovely, amazing friends and family! We just want to drop in and give you a short(ish) update on what’s been going on here and just how truly GOOD God is!
Personally, we are doing really well. We are both very happy and healthy. As we posted in the last update, Jill was battling with her health for nearly 5 months and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her. She went to get a scan of her intestines, etc and they did not find anything. After months of trying to figure out what the problem was, we finally just gave up. There was nothing else we could possibly do, other than leave the country for more in-depth treatment. So we asked God what to do, and Jill felt to Daniel Fast for a week and after that week every. single. symptom. was GONE! She was completely healed and has been healthy ever since! It was a hard battle, the last few months, but God is always faithful!
Not only do we feel like we are flourishing emotionally and physically, we feel like the ministry is starting to flourish as well. We are building deeper relationships with our children and families in all areas of ministry, and they really seem to be opening up to us more and more! Now that we have built that foundation of relationship, we have began to start really sharing the gospel with our children on the Riverside and doing kids clubs (worship, bible teaching, etc) each week. Our partnership with other NGO’s and organizations is growing as well. Our relationship with a rehabilitation center has began to open doors for more of our families to have the ability to get into their facility. Another organization that runs a school of worship for kids, is visiting our community and teaching our kids to play instruments and learn worship songs. It’s our desire for our children to be able to lead their peers into the presence of God in worship.
This month we have had many visiting teams at Iris Cambodia, and each one has been such a blessing! With one team, we were able to go on province outreach to a nearby province. It was such an incredible couple of days getting to see what the majority of Cambodia actually looks like. We were able to visit different homes in the community, which was a great opportunity for us to practice our Khmer. We were greeted with smiles in every home and were able to pray for many people. Our team visited a local pastor and we were able to pray, prophesy, and encourage him in the work he is doing. We also had the opportunity to visit a local school that provides quality Christian education to the community, even allowing free education and housing to children who are in the natural, orphans, but we see them differently and God sees them differently. They are beloved children of God now with a perfect Father and we were able to welcome them with open arms into their Heavenly family! Our team split up into groups of two and actually got to share with a class. We shared about America, about the importance of education and staying in school, about dreaming with God about their future, and about never giving up. At the end, they asked us to sing them a song, so Mitch and I sang the only Khmer song we know in front of 20 students! (a bit embarrassing but funny!) The next day we visited a different village, where we were able to see the boy we talked about in our previous update who was crippled from birth and healed the last time our team visited this village. He was very shy but he was full of life, running around all over the place and playing soccer. It was amazing to see God’s healing power! In this village the Iris Khmer team lead worship, put on a puppet show, and taught many children about good touch, bad touch. This was truly one of our highlight experiences in the last 6 months, and we cannot wait to start doing this every month!
Thank you so much for your love and support. We ask that you please continue to pray for our work here and all of the families that we work with!
Love,
Mitch & Jillian
