KHMERry Christmas

KHMERry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope you’ve all had an amazing holiday season full of love and laughter with your families. We have had an amazing month and just wanted to share some highlights with you.

Earlier this month our entire Iris Cambodia team went on outreach to provinces near the Thailand border where a lot of trafficking happens. It’s not a place that many people want to visit. Before leaving, we were also told that there are still active landmines there so we should stay on the designated paths once we arrive. We visited 2 villages and reached over 300 children and families. Our main purpose for going on outreach was to teach children and families about trafficking prevention and to share the gospel. Our amazing Khmer staff came locked and loaded with teachings on labor and sex trafficking, what to look out for, and what to do if you think it’s happening to you. The first night, we showed the Jesus film to introduce people to the gospel, but due to technical difficulties we had to stop the film early. Mitch had the privilege of sharing the gospel that night and preaching. He had to wing some of his message due to the change in schedule and he did beautifully. Holy Spirit showed up and MANY were healed and saved. Over the course of the weekend a total of 36 people declared Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we were able to spontaneously baptize 22 people in a river nearby, and we saw countless numbers of healings!

Upon our return from outreach, we ran full speed ahead into planning for our Christmas parties in our communities. Leading up to the parties our amazing staff taught about the life of Jesus and on our party day, they told the story of His birth. We even performed a Christmas Story drama, which was interesting to say the least, but SO MUCH FUN! Mitch and I played Mary and Joseph. We gave out a total of 240 meals and gifts to children filled with toys and supplies for school. We also gave out 56 family care packages filled with 22 lbs of groceries. BUT the most exciting thing of all, and truly the most important thing that came out of these parties is that 40 adults and 25 children gave their lives to Jesus! Many of them left the parties fully healed in every way. One woman came in limping and walking with a cane and left walking upright swinging her cane in the air! Jesus truly is the reason for this season and He is so worth celebrating. We are really excited for this coming year, to see all that God is going to do, especially in and through our children and families in our communities.

excited about their gifts
