30 Jul Mozambique Update 4
Class
In the last 2 weeks we have had the honor of learning from some giants of faith and people that are making huge differences in the world: Mattheus & Rebekah van der Steen who travel to closed nations and openly share the gospel, Georgian Bonav of Global Celebration, Supresa Sithole author of Voice in the Night, Jason Lee Jones who is an amazing prophetic worshipper, & David Hogan whose ministry in Mexico has seen over 500 people raised from the dead! We are so full and practically exploding from impartation and revelation we have received over the last 2 weeks! We can’t wait to GO OUT and pour out all we have received!! Here are a few quotes…
“When does someone else’s problem become your own? The moment you hear about it. If you’re not ready for that responsibility, stay home!” -David Hogan
“Waiting = Worship. If you don’t know how to wait, you don’t know how to worship!” -Supresa Sithole
“The world wants you happy but not holy. Religion wants you holy but not happy. Jesus came so you could have both!” – Georgian Bonav
“Waiting in the Bible is persistently praying, not sitting around doing nothing.” -Matthues van der Steen
House Building
We had our final week of house building and we were able to finish one home and start on a second. The first home is beautiful, made of brick and cement with actual Windows and two rooms as well as a very nice latrine for the family. We are still praying and believing for the father to be healed of blindness.
The second house that we started on was in the village at the garbage dump. Trucks could not fit on the road through the village so they dumped truck loads of dirt and rocks for us to carry in buckets to the building location. The location was probably 200 yards away straight up hill and then straight down hill and it was blazing hot, but it was an incredible view. We were at the highest point in the city and could see the ocean and other villages perfectly. Our hearts broke for the children that were picking through to garbage for food and anything useful before it all got burned. We loved on them as much as we could on our breaks.
Weekend Outreach
This week we went to a village about 45 minutes away called Mecufi. When we arrived there were about 100 children there ready to great us. It was so fun! We set up our tents in the yard around the church and played with the children until dark. The Mozambican evangelistic team set up the sound system and Jesus Film near our camp so we walked there and ministered to the village. It was a large village so probably a couple hundred people were there. There were about 50 salvations, and many were of Muslim faith. Our team made a fire tunnel and many people came through for prayer and healing but it was hard to know everything that happened because of the language barrier.
Friday morning we had the honor of dedicating the church there because it had just been built and was ready to begin being used. It was a beautiful brick church. We sang songs, cut a ribbon, and had an amazing first service inside. During the service we honored the 11 cheifs of the village by greeting them and giving them capulanas. At the end of the service we asked for anyone who wanted to accept Jesus to come to the front and after asking 3 times the chief of police came forward and following him were the other 10 chiefs and leaders of the village! It was incredible! They prayed and gave their lives to Jesus. The magnitude of that is huge because often times when the chiefs get saved, the majority of the people follow. After the dedication we fed everyone there a yummy chicken, rice, and beans lunch.
After lunch we were able to split up in small groups and did house to house ministry. First we met a mama who was already a believer but she had back pain so we prayed for her and she was completely healed! Next we asked the children if there were any deaf people in the village and they said yes and led us to a house. The house had a white flag on the roof and we realized it was the local witch doctors home. The witch doctor, Fatima, came out and tried to avoid us but we greeted her with love and honor and she ended up inviting us to sit with her and her family on the grass mats outside of their home. We gave her some food and water as a way of loving and serving her. She was so spunky, fun, and just hilarious. We could barely understand her because the translating through 3 languages was messy but we all had so much fun just pointing and trying to communicate. While we were there we prayed for her husband and Jesus healed him of deafness. He had been healed before when Heidi came but it came back the next day so he was a little skeptical, but still was happy to hear. We found out that one of the Muslim men that got saved the night before was their son in law! The witch doctor had accepted Jesus weeks before while in the hospital with pneumonia, but she was still practicing witch craft. We prayed for her but she was unwilling to give up the witch craft. So we all decided to sit there and worship with some songs in their local language and she joined us. She was so exhausted from all the demons but when we worshipped she became a new woman full of peace and joy. We sat there for a few hours just loving on this family through prayer and worship. We spent a lot of time telling her that she needed to get rid of the witch craft so Jesus could heal her, and she said she would, but didn’t do it while we were there. Her granddaughter was attached to my hip (Jill) all weekend, even before we went to their house. Her name was Saldima. I could tell she had been through some dark things so I just held and hugged on her all weekend. She was so sweet and playful, I just wanted to either take her home with me, or build a mud hut and never leave that village! ☺️
That night we preached and showed the Jesus Film in that village and another 20ish people accepted Jesus.
We went back to Fatima’s house, the witch doctor, on Saturday morning before leaving for Pemba. The husband was still healed and so full of joy. He slept well for the first time in a long time and he just seemed like a new person. He said he would burn all of the witch craft if he could but it all belongs to his wife. She wasn’t there but we loved on the husband, grandchildren, and son in law. The man let us pray around the outside of the home and during the time I saw a vision of God turning the witch craft home into a house of prayer and worship for the village! We are believing and so hopeful that God is going to finish what he started and the entire family will be saved. Thank you, Jesus!
This is our last week here in Mozambique. We leave August 5 for South Africa where we will go into the bush for 10 days of outreach! Be praying that God will move in a mighty way and that many will come to know the love of Jesus! We will be back in Richmond on August 20 😃
